Play a video backwards
Water jumping back into a glass, a dive out of the pool: make any clip run in reverse, without uploading it.
- Nothing is uploaded
- Works offline after first visit
- Open source
- No watermark. On a phone, up to about 2 minutes of 1080p video (30 seconds of 4K)
Make any clip play backwards for a rewind or boomerang effect, in your browser. It is free, needs no account and adds no watermark, and your files are not uploaded: everything runs in your browser on your device. The size limit is your device’s memory, and phones hold less; give the page a short while after one visit to save itself for offline use, and then it works offline.
Done
Open the network tab. Your files never appear in it.
Add files and run the tool to see every request this tab makes.
Your files are processed on this device and never sent to a server. Reload the page to clear everything from memory.
Played backwards, everyday clips turn into small magic tricks: spilled milk flows back into the carton, a jump lands on the diving board, a messy room tidies itself. The rewind effect is a classic on TikTok and Reels.
Drop the clip and press Reverse. Reversed speech sounds like gibberish, so the sound is removed here by default; untick Remove the sound to keep it.
The video is reversed on your device. Nothing is uploaded, and there is no watermark or length limit.
How it works
- Drop a clip.
- Keep Remove the sound ticked, or untick it for backwards sound.
- Press Reverse and save the MP4.
In your browser, not on a server
Mediabunny (MPL-2.0) reads the MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV container in your tab. Because video can only be decoded forwards, your browser (WebCodecs) decodes it in short windows from the end to the start; each window’s frames are held in memory, encoded last first, and freed. The sound is decoded by your browser and reversed. Both go into an MP4, H.264 and AAC where available.
Compared with upload-based tools: Online reversers upload the clip to a server, limit free videos to a short length, and often add a watermark. Here the video never leaves your device.
Verify it yourself. Give the page a short while after one visit to save itself for offline use, then turn off Wi-Fi or switch to airplane mode and run the tool again. Or open your browser's developer tools (F12, or Cmd-Option-I on a Mac), pick the Network tab, and watch it while you convert. The panel above does the same count for you.
Questions
How do I make a boomerang (forwards then backwards)?
Reverse the clip here, then join the original and the reversed copy with Merge videos. For a loop that plays forever, turn the result into a GIF with Video to GIF.
Is the file uploaded anywhere?
No. There is no server in this process. The page is a static file and the work is done by code running inside your browser tab. Give the page a short while after one visit to save itself for offline use; then you can turn off Wi-Fi and it still works.
