Compress PNG
Shrink PNG screenshots, logos and graphics while keeping them PNGs, transparency and all. Nothing is uploaded.
- Nothing is uploaded
- Works offline after first visit
- Open source
- No watermark · limit is your device’s memory; phones hold less
Compresses PNG files with a smart colour palette or losslessly, keeps transparency, and saves smaller PNGs. It is free, needs no account and adds no watermark, and your files are not uploaded: everything runs in your browser on your device. The size limit is your device’s memory, and phones hold less; give the page a short while after one visit to save itself for offline use, and then it works offline.
Done
Open the network tab. Your files never appear in it.
Add files and run the tool to see every request this tab makes.
Your files are processed on this device and never sent to a server. Reload the page to clear everything from memory.
How it works
- Drop one or more PNG files, or tap to pick them.
- Keep Best quality (256 colours) for most images, go down to 128 or 64 colours for a smaller file, or choose Lossless to keep every pixel.
- Compress. Each file stays a PNG; one downloads straight away, several download as a zip.
In your browser, not on a server
UPNG.js (MIT), the PNG codec from the Photopea editor, reads the PNG byte by byte in your tab, so the exact pixels are used, not a canvas copy. For lossy compression it reduces the image to a palette of up to 256 colours chosen for that image and writes an 8-bit PNG with full transparency; lossless mode keeps every pixel and picks the tightest colour type and filters. The result is compressed with pako’s deflate (MIT) and saved from memory.
Compared with upload-based tools: Compressors that process your PNGs on their server usually limit free use. Screenshots, design exports and logos are often confidential. Here your files are not uploaded, and there is no daily limit or file cap.
Verify it yourself. Give the page a short while after one visit to save itself for offline use, then turn off Wi-Fi or switch to airplane mode and run the tool again. Or open your browser's developer tools (F12, or Cmd-Option-I on a Mac), pick the Network tab, and watch it while you convert. The panel above does the same count for you.
Questions
Is my PNG uploaded?
No. The PNG is decoded and written again by code running in this page. There is no server in the process, no daily limit, and the size limit is your device’s memory (phones hold less). The page keeps working offline after one visit and a short wait.
How does it make PNGs so much smaller?
A normal PNG stores every pixel in full colour, up to 16 million colours. Most screenshots, logos and illustrations use far fewer, so the image is rewritten with a palette of the 256 (or fewer) colours that matter most, which takes a quarter of the space before compression. This is the same idea TinyPNG and pngquant use. Lossless mode keeps every pixel and only finds a tighter way to store them.
Is transparency kept?
Yes, including soft edges and shadows. The palette stores a transparency level for each colour, so a logo on a transparent background stays transparent.
What if my PNG is already optimised?
If the compressed file would not be smaller, you get the original back unchanged, and the result says so. Photos saved as PNG shrink the most; for those, converting to JPG or WebP with Compress image saves even more.
Does it work with animated PNGs?
Yes. Every frame and its timing are kept, and the palette is shared across the frames.

Remove EXIF Data
See what a photo reveals, then delete it. The image data is copied unchanged and only the metadata is removed; a sideways JPG is re-encoded only if Apply orientation is on.
EXIF Viewer
Drop a photo to read its metadata, including the location it was taken. The file is read on this device, so checking a private photo does not share it.
Crop image
Drag a box over the part you want, pick a ratio or a circle, and download the crop. The photo never leaves this device.
Blur & pixelate image
Hide faces, plates, addresses and account numbers before you share a photo. The photo never leaves this device.
