Crop a video
Cut away the edges of a video, or crop it to vertical or square for social media. Cropped on this device, never uploaded.
- Nothing is uploaded
- Works offline after first visit
- Open source
- No watermark · limit is your device’s memory; phones hold less
Crops a video to a box you draw or to 9:16, 1:1 or 4:5, from MP4, MOV or WebM to MP4. It is free, needs no account and adds no watermark, and your files are not uploaded: everything runs in your browser on your device. The size limit is your device’s memory, and phones hold less; give the page a short while after one visit to save itself for offline use, and then it works offline.
Drag the box to move it, drag a corner or edge to resize it. Arrow keys nudge it by one pixel (hold Shift for ten).
Done
Open the network tab. Your files never appear in it.
Add files and run the tool to see every request this tab makes.
Your files are processed on this device and never sent to a server. Reload the page to clear everything from memory.
How it works
- Drop a video (MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV), or tap to pick it. A frame from it appears with a crop box.
- Drag the box and its edges, or pick an aspect ratio such as 9:16 or 1:1. You can also type the position and size in pixels.
- Crop. The whole video is cut to that box and re-encoded into an MP4, sound included.
In your browser, not on a server
Your browser shows a frame from the video on your device so you can draw the box. Mediabunny (MPL-2.0) then reads the MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV container in your tab; each frame is decoded by your browser (WebCodecs), cut to the box, and encoded again, H.264 where available and VP9 or AV1 otherwise. The sound is copied as it is when the MP4 can hold it.
Compared with upload-based tools: Online croppers upload the whole video to change its frame, cap free files at a few hundred megabytes, and many stamp a watermark on the result. Here the video never leaves your device.
Verify it yourself. Give the page a short while after one visit to save itself for offline use, then turn off Wi-Fi or switch to airplane mode and run the tool again. Or open your browser's developer tools (F12, or Cmd-Option-I on a Mac), pick the Network tab, and watch it while you convert. The panel above does the same count for you.
Questions
Is my video uploaded?
No. Your browser shows a frame from the file on your device, and the crop is done by its own video decoder and encoder in this tab. There is no upload and no watermark.
How do I make a landscape video vertical for TikTok or Reels?
Choose Vertical (9:16). The box snaps to the tallest 9:16 area in the middle of the picture; drag it left or right to keep the part that matters.
Does cropping lower the quality?
Cropping keeps every pixel inside the box at its original size, but the video has to be encoded again. That is done at high quality, so the result looks very close to the original.
Can I crop just part of the video’s length?
This crops the picture for the whole video. To keep only part of the time, use Trim video first or afterwards.
