Convert PDF to SVG
Each page as a scalable SVG, with vector shapes and selectable text, made on your device without uploading the PDF.
- Nothing is uploaded
- Works offline after first visit
- Open source
- No watermark · limit is your device’s memory; phones hold less
Converts each page of a PDF to an SVG with vector shapes and selectable text, one file per page and a zip for several, and says which pages had to be saved as a picture. It is free, needs no account and adds no watermark, and your files are not uploaded: everything runs in your browser on your device. The size limit is your device’s memory, and phones hold less; give the page a short while after one visit to save itself for offline use, and then it works offline.

What stays vector, and what does not
- Stays vector: lines, shapes, fills, dashes, transparency, clipping, and linear and radial gradients are written as SVG paths and gradients, so they stay sharp at any size.
- Text: every letter is drawn from the font stored in the PDF, so the page looks the same on any device, and a transparent text layer on top keeps it selectable and searchable.
- Pictures: photos and scanned pages are placed inside the SVG as images. They are not traced into vectors, so a scan stays a picture.
- Saved as a picture instead: a page that uses blend modes, soft masks, tiling patterns, mesh gradients or Type 3 fonts is saved as one picture inside the SVG, with its text still selectable, and the result says so for that page.
How it works
- Drop a PDF.
- Choose all pages or a range, and whether to put a white page behind the drawing.
- Convert. Each page downloads as its own SVG; several come as a zip.
In your browser, not on a server
pdf.js (Apache 2.0), the PDF engine inside Firefox, opens the file in your tab and lists every drawing instruction on each page. Stayput replays them as SVG: paths, fills, strokes, dashes, transparency and clipping become SVG elements, and linear and radial shadings become SVG gradients. Each letter is drawn as an outline read from the font stored in the PDF with opentype.js (MIT), with a transparent text layer over it so it stays selectable. Pictures are embedded in the file. A page that needs something SVG cannot say, such as a blend mode, is saved as a picture instead and marked.
Compared with upload-based tools: Online PDF to SVG converters upload the PDF to a server, then cap the pages or add a watermark, and the PDFs people turn into vectors are often logos, floor plans and brand documents that are not ready to share. Here the file never leaves your device, there is no page cap, and a page that cannot be converted exactly says so instead of coming out wrong.
Verify it yourself. Give the page a short while after one visit to save itself for offline use, then turn off Wi-Fi or switch to airplane mode and run the tool again. Or open your browser's developer tools (F12, or Cmd-Option-I on a Mac), pick the Network tab, and watch it while you convert. The panel above does the same count for you.
Questions
Is the text still text?
Yes. Each page has the letters drawn as outlines from the font inside the PDF, so it looks right even where that font is not installed, plus an invisible text layer so you can select, copy and search it. A font the PDF does not store is written as live text in the closest font on the viewer’s device.
Does it trace a scanned PDF into vectors?
No. A scanned page is one picture, and the SVG holds that picture. To get selectable text from a scan, run it through OCR PDF first, then convert the searchable copy. To save the pictures themselves, use Extract Images from PDF.
Why was one page saved as a picture?
SVG cannot say some things the way PDF does: blend modes, soft masks, tiling patterns, mesh gradients, Type 3 fonts and vertical text. Rather than draw them wrongly, the tool saves that page as a picture inside the SVG and names the reason next to the file. The other pages are still vector.
How do I get several pages?
Each page is its own SVG, because that is how SVG works. A document of many pages downloads as a zip with one file per page. To convert only some, choose pages such as 1-3, 5.
How is this different from PDF to Image?
PDF to Image turns each page into a PNG or JPG at a fixed resolution. This tool writes SVG, which is drawn from shapes and outlines, so it scales to any size, opens in Illustrator, Inkscape and Figma, and keeps the text selectable.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. pdf.js reads the file in this tab and the SVG is written from memory. Your files are not uploaded, and the page keeps working with the network off after one visit and a short wait.
