Discord emoji resizer
Custom server emoji at 128 pixels and under 256 KB, trimmed and square, made on this device.
- Nothing is uploaded
- Works offline after first visit
- Open source
- No watermark · limit is your device’s memory; phones hold less
Make custom Discord server emoji from any picture: a 128 pixel transparent PNG under the 256 KB limit, trimmed so it fills the square. It is free, needs no account and adds no watermark, and your files are not uploaded: everything runs in your browser on your device. The size limit is your device’s memory, and phones hold less; give the page a short while after one visit to save itself for offline use, and then it works offline.
Done
Open the network tab. Your files never appear in it.
Add files and run the tool to see every request this tab makes.
Your files are processed on this device and never sent to a server. Reload the page to clear everything from memory.
Discord refuses emoji over 256 KB, and although it accepts other shapes, it squeezes them into a square and shows them at about 48 pixels in chat. A photo straight from a phone is several megabytes and a screenshot of a reaction face has a lot of empty background.
This page trims empty transparent edges, fits or crops the picture into a 128 × 128 square, the size Discord recommends, and saves a transparent PNG. At that size the file is always far below 256 KB, so it uploads first time under Server Settings, Emoji.
For a reaction face cut out of a photo, run it through the background remover first, then bring the transparent PNG here.
How it works
- Drop the pictures.
- Pick Crop to square for photos, or Fit inside for art with its own shape.
- Press Make the emoji and upload them under Server Settings, Emoji.
In your browser, not on a server
Your browser decodes each drawing (SVG, HEIC, AVIF and JPEG XL included) and, unless you untick it, finds the smallest box holding every visible pixel so the empty transparent margin is cropped away. The art is then scaled down in halving steps with high-quality smoothing, which keeps outlines cleaner than one big jump, fitted or cropped into each square, lightly sharpened at the smallest sizes with an unsharp mask, and saved as PNG by your browser. An animated GIF is decoded frame by frame with gifuct-js (MIT), each frame drawn into the square, and written back with gifenc (MIT), trying stronger colour reduction and fewer frames until it is under the limit.
Compared with upload-based tools: Emote resizer sites upload commissioned artwork and unreleased sub badges to a server, and many add a watermark to the preview or cap how many you can do. Here the drawings never leave your device and every size is made in one go.
Verify it yourself. Give the page a short while after one visit to save itself for offline use, then turn off Wi-Fi or switch to airplane mode and run the tool again. Or open your browser's developer tools (F12, or Cmd-Option-I on a Mac), pick the Network tab, and watch it while you convert. The panel above does the same count for you.
Questions
How many emoji can a server have?
Fifty static and fifty animated without boosts, rising with each boost level to 250 of each at level 3. Batches suit filling a new server’s set in one go.
What about emoji names?
Discord takes the file name as the starting emoji name, so name your drawings the way you want to type them. The PNGs from here keep your original names.
Does a larger emoji look better?
No. Chat shows emoji at 48 pixels at most and Discord recommends 128 × 128, so a bigger upload only adds file size and leaves the shrinking to the app.
Can I use a server emoji everywhere?
Members with Nitro can use your server’s emoji in any server and in direct messages; everyone else only inside your server. The file you upload is the same either way.
Is the file uploaded anywhere?
No. There is no server in this process. The page is a static file and the work is done by code running inside your browser tab. Give the page a short while after one visit to save itself for offline use; then you can turn off Wi-Fi and it still works.
