Make a phone number QR code
Scan it and the phone offers to call the number: for a shop door, a flyer, a van or a business card.
- Nothing is uploaded
- Works offline after first visit
- Open source
- No watermark, no sign-up
Makes a QR code that holds a phone number, so a phone camera offers to call it when the code is scanned, and saves it as a PNG or SVG. It is free, and the number you type is not uploaded: the code is drawn in your browser. The codes are static, so they never expire, and after one visit and a short wait the page works offline.
Colours, size and error correction
Type above and the code appears here.
Done
Open the network tab. Your files never appear in it.
Add files and run the tool to see every request this tab makes.
Your files are processed on this device and never sent to a server. Reload the page to clear everything from memory.
A phone number QR code holds the number in the tel: format. Point a phone camera at it and the phone shows the number with a call prompt, so nobody has to type it from a poster, a van or a shop window. The person still taps to call.
Type the number with its country code, such as +1 or +44, so it works for people calling from abroad. Spaces, dashes and brackets are stripped, because only digits and the signs + * # are kept: +1 (555) 010-0000 is written into the code as tel:+15550100000.
That payload is 16 characters, which fits the second QR size, 25 × 25 squares, and the line under the preview says so. A code this small stays easy to scan even printed small. For a poster that is read from a metre away, print it larger and keep the white border around it.
This code dials a number. If you would rather have people save your name, number and email into their contacts, make a contact code instead.
How it works
- Choose Phone and type the number with its country code.
- Scan the preview with your own phone and check it shows the right number.
- Download an SVG for print or a PNG for slides and email signatures.
In your browser, not on a server
A QR encoder written for this site (byte mode, versions 1 to 40, Reed–Solomon error correction and the standard’s mask scoring) turns your text into the grid of squares in your tab. The PNG is drawn on a canvas by your browser and the SVG is written as one path, so both are exact, with no blur.
Compared with upload-based tools: Most QR code sites make you sign up, send your link and Wi-Fi password to their servers, and hand out “dynamic” codes that redirect through their domain, so they can count scans and switch your code off when a trial ends. Here the code holds your text directly, never expires, and nothing you type leaves your device.
Verify it yourself. Give the page a short while after one visit to save itself for offline use, then turn off Wi-Fi or switch to airplane mode and run the tool again. Or open your browser's developer tools (F12, or Cmd-Option-I on a Mac), pick the Network tab, and watch it while you convert. The panel above does the same count for you.
Questions
Does the phone call as soon as the code is scanned?
No. The camera shows the number with a call button, and the person confirms the call.
What is the difference from a contact (vCard) QR code?
A phone number code dials one number. A contact code holds a name, number, email and company, and shows an Add to contacts button. Use the contact code for business cards and this one for a single line to call.
Do I need the country code?
Add it if people may call from another country: +44 20 7946 0000 works from anywhere, while 020 7946 0000 only works inside the UK. Spaces and brackets are removed for you.
What if the number changes after I print the code?
The printed code keeps dialling the old number. The number is the code, which is also why it can never expire or be switched off, so make a new code and replace the print.
How big should I print it?
Large enough for the scanning distance: about 2 cm (0.8 inch) square is fine for a hand-held card, and a shop window needs a code several centimetres wide. Keep the white border and dark-on-light colours.
Is my phone number stored anywhere?
No. The number is turned into the code in this tab and nothing is uploaded. The download is named phone-qr-code, as a PNG or an SVG.

- How to make a QR codeA QR code from some free generators stops working the moment their account expires, because it points at a short link, not your content. Here is how to make one that never does.
