Free PNG compressor
TinyPNG-style compression without uploading your images, and without a limit on how many you do.
- Nothing is uploaded
- Works offline after first visit
- Open source
- No watermark · limit is your device’s memory; phones hold less
Free PNG compressor that runs in your browser. Cut PNG file size by up to 80% and keep transparency. It is free, needs no account and adds no watermark, and your files are not uploaded: everything runs in your browser on your device. The size limit is your device’s memory, and phones hold less; give the page a short while after one visit to save itself for offline use, and then it works offline.
Done
Open the network tab. Your files never appear in it.
Add files and run the tool to see every request this tab makes.
Your files are processed on this device and never sent to a server. Reload the page to clear everything from memory.
Web pages, apps and design systems are full of PNGs that are three or four times bigger than they need to be. A PNG saved from a design tool or a screenshot stores every pixel in full 24-bit colour plus transparency, even when the image only uses a few hundred colours. A PNG compressor rewrites it with a palette of the colours that matter, and the file usually drops by 60 to 80 percent with no difference you can see.
As of October 2026, per tinypng.com, TinyPNG's web page lists "Up to 20 images, max 5 MB each" and points to a paid plan for more. This page does the same job in your browser tab, and your images are not uploaded: the colour reduction and the PNG encoding run in JavaScript on your device. Drop a whole folder of exports and they are compressed one after another and downloaded as a zip.
Pick Best quality for most images. Flat graphics, icons and diagrams can go down to 64 colours; photographic PNGs are better converted to JPG or WebP. If a file would not get smaller, you get the original back untouched.
How it works
- Drop PNG files, or tap to pick them. Batches are fine.
- Keep Best quality, or pick fewer colours for smaller files. Lossless keeps every pixel.
- Compress and compare the savings in the results.
In your browser, not on a server
UPNG.js (MIT), the PNG codec from the Photopea editor, reads the PNG byte by byte in your tab, so the exact pixels are used, not a canvas copy. For lossy compression it reduces the image to a palette of up to 256 colours chosen for that image and writes an 8-bit PNG with full transparency; lossless mode keeps every pixel and picks the tightest colour type and filters. The result is compressed with pako’s deflate (MIT) and saved from memory.
Compared with upload-based tools: Compressors that process your PNGs on their server usually limit free use. Screenshots, design exports and logos are often confidential. Here your files are not uploaded, and there is no daily limit or file cap.
Verify it yourself. Give the page a short while after one visit to save itself for offline use, then turn off Wi-Fi or switch to airplane mode and run the tool again. Or open your browser's developer tools (F12, or Cmd-Option-I on a Mac), pick the Network tab, and watch it while you convert. The panel above does the same count for you.
Questions
Is this as good as TinyPNG?
TinyPNG describes its method as selectively decreasing the number of colours in the image (tinypng.com, as of October 2026). This page does something similar: it reduces the image to a smart palette of up to 256 colours with full transparency. The difference is that your images are not uploaded and there is no cap on the number of files beyond your device’s memory (phones hold less).
Will my images look different?
On screenshots, logos, icons and illustrations, almost never at 256 colours. Smooth gradients and photos can show slight banding; use Lossless or keep more colours for those.
Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. Your images are not uploaded: the compression runs in your browser tab, and you can confirm in your browser’s network panel that no image leaves your device.
