Remove audio from a video
Take the sound out of a video, in seconds and without re-encoding. The video never leaves this device.
- Nothing is uploaded
- Works offline after first visit
- Open source
- No watermark · limit is your device’s memory; phones hold less
Removes the sound track from a video (MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV) and saves it in the same format, copying the picture untouched so it takes seconds with no quality loss. It is free, and your video is not uploaded: it is rewritten in your browser. The size limit is your device’s memory (phones hold less), and after one visit and a short wait the page works offline.
Done
Open the network tab. Your files never appear in it.
Add files and run the tool to see every request this tab makes.
Your files are processed on this device and never sent to a server. Reload the page to clear everything from memory.
How it works
- Drop one or more videos (MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV), or tap to pick them.
- There is nothing to set.
- Remove sound. Each video is rewritten without its sound track, in the same format, and downloads straight away (several download as a zip).
In your browser, not on a server
Mediabunny (MPL-2.0), a media toolkit written in TypeScript, reads the MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV container in your tab and copies every video packet into a new file of the same type, leaving the sound track out. Nothing is decoded or re-encoded, so the picture is bit-for-bit the same and the job takes about as long as reading the file.
Compared with upload-based tools: Online tools that remove audio upload the whole video to do it, cap free files at a few hundred megabytes, and often re-encode the picture or add a watermark. Here nothing is uploaded, the picture is untouched, and a 2 GB file is done in seconds.
Verify it yourself. Give the page a short while after one visit to save itself for offline use, then turn off Wi-Fi or switch to airplane mode and run the tool again. Or open your browser's developer tools (F12, or Cmd-Option-I on a Mac), pick the Network tab, and watch it while you convert. The panel above does the same count for you.
Questions
Is my video uploaded?
No. The file is read and rewritten by code in this page. There is no server in the process, so there is no upload and no copy left anywhere. After one visit and a short wait the page works with Wi-Fi off.
Does removing the sound lower the quality?
No. The video track is copied packet by packet into the new file, exactly as it was. Only the sound track is left out, which is also why a long video is done in seconds.
What format is the result?
The same as the video you dropped: an MP4 stays an MP4, a MOV stays a MOV, and WebM and MKV stay WebM and MKV.
Can I remove only part of the sound, or replace it?
This tool removes the whole sound track. To keep the sound on its own instead, use Video to MP3.
