Bulk rename files
Rename a whole batch of files with one pattern and see every new name before you download. File names stay on your device.
- Nothing is uploaded
- Works offline after first visit
- Open source
- No watermark. A ZIP can be up to 4 GB, and phones hold less.
Renames many files at once with a prefix or suffix, numbering, find and replace or a letter-case change, shows every new name first, and downloads the result as a ZIP. It is free, needs no account and adds no watermark, and your files are not uploaded: everything runs in your browser on your device. A ZIP can be up to 4 GB, and phones hold less; give the page a short while after one visit to save itself for offline use, and then it works offline.

Open the network tab. Your files never appear in it.
Add files and run the tool to see every request this tab makes.
Your files are processed on this device and never sent to a server. Reload the page to clear everything from memory.
Why the result is a ZIP
A web page cannot rename files on your disk, so the renamed copies come back in one ZIP, in the order shown in the preview. Unzip it and the files have their new names; the contents are not changed. To pack files without renaming them, use Create ZIP, and the archive opener unpacks a ZIP you were sent.
How it works
- Drop the files you want to rename; use the arrows to set their order.
- Set a prefix or suffix, numbering, find and replace, or letter case, and check the preview.
- Press Download renamed ZIP; the ZIP holds your files under their new names.
In your browser, not on a server
Your files are listed in this tab and each name is split into a name and an extension. The pattern is applied in a fixed order: find and replace, letter case, numbering, then the prefix and suffix, and characters that file names cannot hold are removed. Duplicates are given a counter. The files are then read and packed unchanged into a ZIP with fflate (MIT), under the new names.
Compared with upload-based tools: Online renamers upload every file, and its name, to a server just to change a few letters. Here the names and the files stay on your device, and the only limit is your device’s memory (phones hold less).
Verify it yourself. Give the page a short while after one visit to save itself for offline use, then turn off Wi-Fi or switch to airplane mode and run the tool again. Or open your browser's developer tools (F12, or Cmd-Option-I on a Mac), pick the Network tab, and watch it while you convert. The panel above does the same count for you.
Questions
Why do I get a ZIP instead of renamed files?
A web page is not allowed to change files on your disk, so the tool writes copies under the new names into a ZIP. Unzip it to get the renamed files; the originals are untouched.
What happens if two files end up with the same name?
The later one gets a counter before its extension, such as photo-2.jpg, and the preview marks it. Names are compared ignoring upper and lower case, because Windows and macOS treat them as the same file.
Are the file extensions kept?
Yes, by default the extension is kept as it was. Untick Keep the original file extension if you want the pattern to apply to the whole name, extension included.
Are my files or their names uploaded?
No. The names are read and changed in this tab and the ZIP is built here. Neither the files nor their names are sent anywhere or counted by analytics.
