Remove an object from a photo
Paint over what should not be there and let a small AI fill it in, on this device.
- Nothing is uploaded
- Works offline after first use
- Open source
- No watermark · limit is your device’s memory; phones hold less
Lets you paint over a person, a bin, a wire or a date stamp in a photo and fills the area in with an AI model. It is free, needs no account and adds no watermark, and your files are not uploaded: everything runs in your browser on your device. The first run downloads the object removal model (about 28 MB) and the WebAssembly engine that runs it to your browser, and after that the tool works offline.
Done
Open the network tab. Your files never appear in it.
Add files and run the tool to see every request this tab makes.
Your files are processed on this device and never sent to a server. Reload the page to clear everything from memory.
How it works
- Drop a photo (JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, AVIF or JPEG XL).
- Paint over the thing to remove, a little past its edges and over its shadow, and press Erase. Repeat for anything else; Undo steps back.
- Press Save to download the cleaned-up photo.
In your browser, not on a server
Your browser decodes the photo and you paint the area to remove on a canvas. MI-GAN (MIT, Picsart AI Research), an inpainting network built to run on phones, runs in a web worker through onnxruntime-web (MIT) compiled to WebAssembly. The model crops around the painted area, fills it at 512 × 512 from the surrounding pixels and blends it back at full size; only painted pixels change. The result is saved by your browser’s own image encoder.
Compared with upload-based tools: Online magic erasers upload your photo to a GPU server, often cap the free size, add a watermark or ask for an account, and keep the upload. The photos people clean up are often personal: family, homes, holidays. Here the network runs on your device and the photo never leaves it.
Verify it yourself. Give the page a short while after your first run to save itself for offline use, then turn off Wi-Fi or switch to airplane mode and run the tool again. Or open your browser's developer tools (F12, or Cmd-Option-I on a Mac), pick the Network tab, and watch it while you convert. The panel above does the same count for you.
Questions
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The eraser is MI-GAN, a small open-source inpainting network, running as WebAssembly in a background thread of this page. Your photo is decoded, filled in and saved in your tab. The 28 MB model and the WebAssembly runtime that runs it are downloaded once, from this site.
What does it do well, and what not?
It is best at things standing on a background that repeats: a person on a beach, a bin on a pavement, a wire across the sky, a spot on a wall, a date stamp in a corner. It invents what is behind, so a large object in front of something unique, like a face or a sign, comes back as a plausible blur rather than the real thing.
How do I get the cleanest result?
Paint a little past the edges of the object and include its shadow and reflection, which the eye notices at once if left behind. Erase one thing at a time: a smaller area gets more detail. If a patch looks smudged, paint over just that patch and erase again.
Does it change the rest of the photo?
No. Only the painted pixels are replaced; every other pixel is copied through as it was. The photo keeps its full size. Saving as PNG adds no compression at all, and JPG at quality 92 is visually the same as the original.
Is the camera data kept?
No. The saved photo is written fresh from the canvas, so location, camera and date metadata are left out, which suits a picture you are about to post.
