Split an image into tiles

Cut one picture into a grid or a seamless carousel. Done on this device, never uploaded.

Cuts a picture into a grid, a carousel or any number of rows and columns, and saves the tiles. It is free, needs no account and adds no watermark, and your files are not uploaded: everything runs in your browser on your device. The size limit is your device’s memory, and phones hold less; give the page a short while after one visit to save itself for offline use, and then it works offline.

Drop an image to splitor click to choose files. Batches welcome.

Posting order numbers the bottom-right tile 1, so posting 1, 2, 3… builds the grid on an Instagram profile.

    Working…

    Done

Your files are processed on this device and never sent to a server. Reload the page to clear everything from memory.

    How it works

    1. Drop a picture (JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC and more), or tap to pick one.
    2. Pick a grid: 3 across for a carousel, 3 × 3 for a profile grid, or any rows and columns. Choose square or 4:5 tiles for Instagram; the preview shows the cut lines and dims anything trimmed.
    3. Split. The tiles download together as a zip, numbered left to right or in the order to post them.

In your browser, not on a server

Your browser decodes the picture (libheif or the Squoosh decoders step in for HEIC, AVIF and JPEG XL). When the tiles must be square or 4:5, the middle of the picture is kept at the right proportions. Each tile is then copied pixel for pixel from the original onto its own canvas, without scaling, and encoded once in the format you chose.

Compared with upload-based tools: Grid and carousel apps ask for your whole photo library, add a watermark unless you subscribe, and web versions upload the picture. Here it never leaves your device and the tiles carry no mark.

Verify it yourself. Give the page a short while after one visit to save itself for offline use, then turn off Wi-Fi or switch to airplane mode and run the tool again. Or open your browser's developer tools (F12, or Cmd-Option-I on a Mac), pick the Network tab, and watch it while you convert. The panel above does the same count for you.

    Questions

    Is my picture uploaded?

No. Your browser decodes the image and cuts the tiles on a canvas in the page. Your files are not uploaded, and it works offline after one visit and a short wait.

Which grid for an Instagram profile?

Instagram shows profiles three posts across, and newer profiles show each post as a 4:5 portrait. Choose 3 × 3 (or 3 × 2) with Portrait 4:5 tiles and In posting order, then post tile 1 first: the last one you post lands top left and completes the picture.

How do I make a seamless carousel?

Choose 3 across (or 2 across) with Portrait 4:5 or Square tiles and post the tiles as one carousel, in number order. Swiping reveals one wide picture.

    Is quality lost?

No resizing happens: each tile is an exact piece of the original, saved once. Pick PNG for a lossless file, or keep the original format.
