Make a WhatsApp sticker from a photo

Cut out, bordered and sized the way WhatsApp wants it, on your device.

Make a WhatsApp sticker from any photo: background removed, white border, 512 × 512 WebP under 100 KB. It is free, needs no account and adds no watermark, and your files are not uploaded: everything runs in your browser on your device. The first run downloads the cut-out model and the WebAssembly engine that runs it (about 42 MB in all) to your browser, and after that the tool works offline.

The first photo downloads the cut-out model and its WebAssembly runtime (about 42 MB in all, once). After that first download it is cached and works offline.

    Working…

    Done

Your files are processed on this device and never sent to a server. Reload the page to clear everything from memory.

WhatsApp stickers have simple rules: a 512 × 512 pixel image with a transparent background, saved as WebP, under 100 KB, with a small margin so nothing touches the edge. The best ones are cut-outs of a friend’s face mid-laugh, a pet caught at the right moment or an in-joke object, with the thick white border that makes a sticker look like a sticker.

This page does all of it in one go. The subject is found by a segmentation model running in your browser, the background is removed, a white die-cut border is drawn around the outline, and the result is placed on a 512 pixel square with WhatsApp’s 16 pixel margin and saved as WebP, stepping the quality down if needed to stay under 100 KB.

Sticker apps usually upload the photo to cut it out, and they are full of ads. Here nothing leaves your device, which matters when the sticker is of someone who did not ask to be one.

    How it works

    1. Drop one or more photos with a clear subject. The first photo downloads the cut-out model and its WebAssembly runtime once.
    2. Keep the defaults: thick white border, 512 × 512, WebP.
    3. Download the stickers, then add them on WhatsApp Web or desktop: sticker panel, Create, upload.

In your browser, not on a server

The same open segmentation model as the background remover (ISNet, running on onnxruntime-web in a web worker) marks the subject. The cut-out is trimmed to the subject’s bounds, and the border is drawn by stamping a tinted silhouette of it in rings around the edge on a canvas, so it follows every curve. The canvas is saved as PNG or WebP by your browser.

Compared with upload-based tools: Sticker apps and sites upload your photos of people and pets to a server to cut them out, and many add a watermark or ask for a subscription. Here the photo never leaves your device and the sticker is yours at full size.

Verify it yourself. Give the page a short while after your first run to save itself for offline use, then turn off Wi-Fi or switch to airplane mode and run the tool again. Or open your browser's developer tools (F12, or Cmd-Option-I on a Mac), pick the Network tab, and watch it while you convert. The panel above does the same count for you.

    Questions

How do I add the sticker on my phone?

The quickest way is WhatsApp Web or the desktop app: open a chat, the sticker panel, choose Create and upload the WebP file; it then syncs to your phone. On the phone itself, custom stickers need a sticker-pack app, which can import these files.

Why does WhatsApp say the sticker is too big?

WhatsApp rejects stickers over 100 KB. This page lowers the WebP quality until the file fits and says in the results whether it did; a very detailed photo may still come out over, in which case crop it closer to the subject first.

    Can I make animated stickers?

Not here. This makes still stickers from photos. Animated WhatsApp stickers are animated WebP files with extra limits on frame rate and size.

Does the other person see where the photo came from?

No. The sticker is a new image with no camera details, location or file name from the original photo inside it.

    Is the file uploaded anywhere?

No. There is no server in this process. The page is a static file and the work is done by code running inside your browser tab. Give the page a short while after your first run to save itself for offline use; then you can turn off Wi-Fi and it still works.
