Meme generator
Put classic top and bottom text on any picture, on your own device.
- Nothing is uploaded
- Works offline after first visit
- Open source
- No watermark · limit is your device’s memory; phones hold less
Make a meme from your own picture in your browser: classic white Impact text with a black outline, top and bottom. It is free, needs no account and adds no watermark, and your files are not uploaded: everything runs in your browser on your device. The size limit is your device’s memory, and phones hold less; give the page a short while after one visit to save itself for offline use, and then it works offline.
Drag the text on the picture to move it.
Done
Open the network tab. Your files never appear in it.
Add files and run the tool to see every request this tab makes.
Your files are processed on this device and never sent to a server. Reload the page to clear everything from memory.
The classic meme look is white Impact capitals with a black outline, one line at the top and one at the bottom. This page sets that up on any picture you drop in: type over the top and bottom text, drag either to move it, and save a full-size image with no watermark.
The picture never leaves your device, so a screenshot from a group chat or a photo of a friend is not handed to a meme site. Impact comes with Windows and Mac; elsewhere the closest bold font on your device is used.
How it works
- Drop a picture, or tap to pick one.
- Replace Top text and Bottom text. Drag them to move, or change the size.
- Save the meme. It downloads straight away as a full-size image.
In your browser, not on a server
Your browser decodes each image (libheif or the Squoosh decoders step in for HEIC, AVIF and JPEG XL) and draws it on a canvas in your tab at full size. Your text is wrapped to fit, then drawn with the canvas text functions at a size that is a share of the image, with an outline, shadow or backing box if chosen, and the result is encoded once in the format you picked. Fonts come from your device, apart from the site’s own Archivo and Caveat.
Compared with upload-based tools: Online text and meme tools upload the picture, many stamp their own watermark on the free version, and some keep the uploads to show in a public gallery. Here the image never leaves your device and the file you save carries no mark but yours.
Verify it yourself. Give the page a short while after one visit to save itself for offline use, then turn off Wi-Fi or switch to airplane mode and run the tool again. Or open your browser's developer tools (F12, or Cmd-Option-I on a Mac), pick the Network tab, and watch it while you convert. The panel above does the same count for you.
Questions
Is there a watermark?
No. The saved image has only your picture and your text.
Can I use just one line?
Yes. Clear the second text and only the first is drawn.
Is the file uploaded anywhere?
No. There is no server in this process. The page is a static file and the work is done by code running inside your browser tab. Give the page a short while after one visit to save itself for offline use; then you can turn off Wi-Fi and it still works.

Guides
- How to add text to a photoEvery phone and computer can do it, but the controls differ and the text is often hard to read on a busy picture. Here is each built-in way, and a private browser option.
